Vulli Thomas the Tank Engine Set

Hello everyone,

I am writing from England, so I apologise if this doesn't translate very well. I recently acquired a Thomas the Tank Engine motorised train set. Vulli is a French brand so I was hoping some of the members of this forum might be able to help me find some information and old advertisements/catalogue extracts featuring the set.

Any help of information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for this, but unfortunately this forum is only discussing a generic Vulli train and not the Thomas the Tank Engine set specifically. I am getting the impression that the Thomas the Tank Engine set is really rather rare!

Thomas is very popular in UK, but almost unknown in France, so I imagine Vulli has made it especially for the UK market.

I didn't realise he was so unknown in France! It could be that he was made exclusively for the UK market, as I did see it in the UK catalogue of 1984.

The photo is really small, but I'm recognizing the train. This one was released in France something like 10 years ago, as a Lego-Duplo bootleg. I use to have it in my house, because it was a toy of one of my children.

Hi Lionel,

I don't believe this to be a Lego Duplo knock off as it is far too old, it is dated 1984. I will try and upload a higher quality picture of the box soon.

Apologies for the language barrier, I am just using Chrome to "translate to English". Are you wanting me to introduce myself? if so, thank you, I am a nice guy!

I received your email on my Flickr and I was going to answer this weekend before seeing that you were registered here too. As said above, in fact, Thomas the Tank Engine is not very well known here and frankly, I only knew him in the years 2010 when my godson (3/4 years old at the time) watched the cartoon to the television...

But as Trumanshower so aptly pointed out, Thomas the Tank is almost unknown here and if you saw it in a Vulli catalog it's because it's the English version of this catalog but it does not appear in the versions French from the same period. This is the case for many years, where on products such as trains, music television channels, circuits, ... heroes are different on toys depending on the country.

I really appreciate the help, it's a shame we couldn't find out any more about the set, but that will more than suffice for my purposes.

I know it is older, but I was just saying that this was released as a Duplo similar item 10 years ago in France (bootleg was not the good term to use). That's why I was knowing this character. But for the older toy, I don't know.
